FC Sportika 2006 Boys Make Incredible Run During June
FC Sportika 2006 Boys have been an incredible run of success over the past few months, and June in particular proved to be a month that provided a high level of pride and accomplishment for the entire Sportika family.
The 2006 Boys won State Cup by beating STA in an overtime match, 4-3, and the team then flew to Denver to compete at the Premier SuperCopa National Tournament the following week.
Coming through a tough group, they qualified for the Gold Bracket (top division of three brackets) and beat MLS academy team Houston Dynamo, 2-0, in the quarterfinal. The boys then fell in the semifinal on PKs after an epic 4-4 match against Paramount FC out of Los Angeles.
Additionally, the team also won the EDP Division 1 by going 8-0-0 against top-ranked teams, capping off a memorable spring season.
The 2006 Boys continued their success last weekend by playing 11v11 for the first time at the Neptune tournament, winning all four games despite playing a ‘year up’ at 2005.
“The spring season has been a watershed season for this team, climaxing with FC Sportika’s first-ever State Cup Win just six years after the club’s formation,” said Wayne Price, Managing Director of Sportika Soccer Operations & Academy Director for FC Sportika. “Despite the team winning numerous competitions this season, for me it shows how far the entire club has come in the last few years, and this is something to be celebrated by all and not the few. A special mention must go to not only the players and parents for their commitment but also to my wonderful coaching staff, and in particular my Director of Coaching, Daniel Lawson, who spent the last two years getting this particular team and the club as a whole into this position. The club is only as good as the players and coaches who participate.”
