Sportika Young Guns Winter Classic
The Sportika Young Guns Baseball organization hosted their first-ever indoor Winter Baseball Classic this past Sunday at Sportika in Manalapan, N.J. The event provided an opportunity for six youth baseball teams to play three full indoor baseball games inside Sportika’s state-of-the-art indoor facility.
The first game saw the Young Guns 8U team host the South Jersey Wolfpack from Cherry Hill, N.J. Both teams seemed to be in mid-season form, turning in great pitching and defensive performances. Andrew D’Marsico’s (Wall) bases-clearing triple in the bottom of the 5th turned out to be the difference-maker as the Young Guns defeated the Wolfpack 8-4.
In the middle game, the Young Guns 9U Grey team hosted the local Manalapan Braves 9U Red. This game was the first-ever for the newly formed Young Guns Grey squad. Pitching and defense prevailed in this game as well, as the game ended in a 3-3 tie. Newcomer David Chafey (Wall) tossed three innings of scoreless baseball in his Young Guns debut.
In the nightcap, the Young Guns 9U Red hosted the Mooresville 9ers from Mooresville, Penn. The Young Guns picked up right where they left off this past fall season, as the veteran crew’s bats seemed to not miss a beat in scoring 12 runs on nine hits en route to a 12-8 win. The offense was led by MJ Parulis (Middletown), Shane McIntyre (Jackson), and Jagger Golden (Manalapan).
